Railroad Consultants was hired by Universal Orlando Resort to help determine the locally preferred route for a proposed intercity passenger rail system between Orlando and Tampa. Railroad Consultants studied potential routes for Brightline’s inter-city rail expansion to Tampa – and developed a consensus corridor that would serve the International Drive area and the Disney area. The designed route will also be capable of being jointly used by the SunRail commuter rail system. The project included a cost comparison of two proposed routes, an analysis of constructability issues, value engineering, track design, community impact, and state/local government coordination. Because of this effort, Brightline decided to join forces with I-Drive businesses (including Universal Orlando Resort) and local governments to pursue federal funding for a preferred alignment that is supported by the entire region.
